Kiss French Manicure Kit: A Review

This is going to be a 2-part review series on French Manicure kits. The first one is Kiss French Manicure Kit with bonus nail art. It comes with the white tip polish, base polish, non-yellowing top coat, french tip nail sticker guides and the bonus nail art stickers. It retails for less than $7 at Walgreens and other retail outlets. The packaging is okay, nothing fancy but it does give you a clear plastic window to all the goodies and colors inside. There are two shades of the base polish to choose from: Sheer Buff and Sheer Pink. The one I used was Sheer Pink.

(Review after the jump)

As I mentioned, there were french tip nail guides that were included in the kit so you can create your tips easily and neatly. I don't like how long it takes to wait for the nail tip color to be completely dry, because if you peel the sticker off before it is thorougly dry, it will mess up the crescent shape or "smile" of your french tip. That said, I used my French Tip brush (see pic above) to create a neat french tip. I take the brush, dip it in 100% pure acetone, and starting from the bottom-left of the nail tip, I slowly work my way toward the bottom right. I didn't make too much of a "smile" in this last work, though, but I couldn't believe how easy it was to clean up the french tip using this brush!! This is much easier and quicker than the french tip sticker guides, so I am definitely going to stick to this brush. It is also easy to clean up any mess on the sides of the nails using this brush as compared to a q-tip. It's like a magic eraser brush for nail polish.

I am now on my fourth day of wearing the french manicure, and I can say that I am really satisfied with it. My french tips are still neat, clean, and not discolored at all. I also don't see any visible tip wear yet, and I just LOVE french tips on natural nails, because acrylic french tips can look very thick and just, well, unnatural. I just did two to three coats of the white tip, let dry, clean the tips using the french tip brush and acetone, and add my colored base, Kiss non-yellowing top coat and Seche Vite quick dry coat. My lines were a bit wonky, but for a first time user of the french-tip brush, I think that's pretty okay. The bonus nail art is also not bad at all. For $6 something, this is good.

I will be coming up with a review of a second brand of french manicure kit, so stay tuned!

Golds, Copper and Brown Using Aromaleigh and MAC Pigment

Here's a gold-copper-bronze look using Aromaleigh mineral shadows and MAC pigments. I used Gothic Lolita eyeshadow in Satin Laces, which is one of my favorite Aromaleigh eyeshadow collections. I also used Pyro from the Elemental Lustre collection to give a bright copper tone to the look. I used MAC pigment in Chocolate Brown to give the brown-bronze depth I need to finish off the look.

All products Aromaleigh unless otherwise stated.

Apply MAC Bare Canvas paint all over lid and lower lashline. Using a fluffy shader brush, apply MAC Rubenesque paint pot on lid.

Using Loew Cornell Maxine's Mop 3/8" shader brush (or the MAC 239), apply Satin Laces on the lid slightly damp using MAC Charged Water.

Using the same brush, apply Pyro damp on the crease going down to the outer V.

Using the same brush, apply MAC Chocolate Brown pigment on the crease and outer lid.

Blend with the MAC 224 brush.

Apply some more Pyro using the shader brush if necessary.

Add a little Chocolate Brown and blend with the 224.

Using the Stila Brush No 5, apply MAC Sunday Best eyeshadow on the browbone to highlight, and using Coastal Scents mini detail brush on the inner corners.

Blend the colors together using the 224 brush.

Apply MAC Blacktrack fluidline on upper lashline. Apply Urban Decay 24/7 pencil liner in Zero to tightline and on waterline. Apply Satin Laces on inner lower lashline andPyro on outer lower lashline. Apply Red Cherry falsies #15. Apply mascara.

OPI and Essie Nail Haul and Review

I went back to this neighborhood nail supply store that I discovered a few weeks ago. I didn't really buy much nail polishes the last time I went there, because I thought the prices were just going to be just like that of Sally's or ULTA. They have such a wide variety of Essie, China Glaze, OPI, Color Club, and other nail polish brands. I was absolutely blown away when the owner told me that the Essies were only $3.50 and OPI $4.50, and China Glaze $3!!! It's like shopping at those online nail polish supply sites like 8ty8beauty or Head2toe (these polishes are even cheaper than those sold on some of these sites!). Best of all, I don't have to pay for shipping at all. I was so excited that I promised myself that I was going to go back and get some more of my coveted polishes, but for now, I settled with these romantic shades from OPI and Essie.

Essie Bike Ride is a dreamy cream light strawberry milk color that would look great on the tips especially for summer. Amazing consistency and the color for me is for me is so romantic. It would also make a great base color for Konad stamp art.

Essie Fiesta's name describes how festive this color is. When I say it's a hot pink, it really is an electric, beautiful hot pink that really screams summer. It would look amazing on the toes accompanied by flipflops or strappy sexy heels, and I believe this is such a universal color that it would suit every skintone.

I had tried to stay away from OPI Done Out in Deco because I thought it would be too similar to Parlez-vous OPI?, but with the price so low, how could I resist? I'm glad I got it because it's different enough from Parlez-vous. The latter is darker and Done Out in Deco is a lavender-grey cream that is so pretty because I love grey-based lilacs.

OPI Por Favor is another amazing color, a mauvish-medium pink color with purple undertones with this beautiful subtle sheen that you can see when you wear it on your nails. This is such a feminine, summer color that would also look great worn year-round.

Looking at this haul, you'd notice that I really gravitate towards pinks and purples right now. I am such a girly girl, I know. I also like these shades because they can be worn at work and my nails would still look professional, but with an added oomph to them.

Here's another Konad attempt before I end this post. I am really loving OPI Over the Taupe because it gives such a dark, creamy taupe that is beautiful, neutral enough to be worn at work but eye-catching enough to be noticed. I added some white Konad special polish using m20 image plate.

L'oreal HIP Color Presso Double Lipglosses Review

Grab Hold Of Endless Color Combinations.

Press One Side For A Single Shade
Press Two Sides To Mix And Blend Hundreds More.
Press To Express

Hundreds of customizable combinations. Lightweight, never layered. Supple, never sticky. Just the perfect blending of hi-gloss color. Easy to combine. Easy to carry. And like all HiP high intensity pigment™ products, all 20 shades pack more color pigment. Which is news worth repeating.

Truer Color Payoff. Longer Color Impact

MY TAKE:
I was given samples of these new lipgloss shades from L'oreal to test. I liken it to conjoined squeeze tube twins: think squeeze tubes containing different-colored lipglosses fused together to form one conjoined mass of tubes with two spouts. L'oreal HIP Presso double lipgloss has two different shades of product in two different tubes attached together. When you press either one or both tubes, the product would spurt out, and you can use one or mix both according to your whim.

wearing Swanky over MAC Marquise D' lipstick

(Full review after the jump)

The colors I got were lovely. Swanky contains a milky white pearly gloss and a cotton candy pink one (incidentally, this product smells strongly of cotton candy). Trendy is a pretty mauve with a nice strawberry-milk color shade to go with it. The gloss itself is not sticky at all and leaves a nice pearly sheen on the lips. It would look great on top of my favorite lipsticks, as these lipglosses are not heavily pigmented. In fact, some of the shades are quite sheer.

UPSIDE: Nice, non-sticky consistency, ability to mix the shades, convenient 2-in-1 tube

DOWNSIDE: I am not a fan of the packaging. I hated how it was so hard to take off the cap. I also didn't like the strong cotton candy smell. After a while, I felt like my teeth were gonna ache because of too much sugar on my mouth. It's probably just my imagination, but it still had a too-sweet effect on me. It also doesn't last that long on the lips.

Note: Some say that $12.99 is a bit too much for a drugstore lipgloss, but keep in mind that you are technically getting two lipglosses. Please don't try to compare this to a MAC lipglass. L'oreal HIP Presso is .34 fl. oz, while MAC lipglass has 0.17 fl. oz. of product. Technically, HIP Presso has twice more product than a MAC lipglass.

All in all, if you like a couple of shades of lipglosses that you can mix, match or wear separately, you might like this product. They have pretty colors that go well with the season. Personally, though, I would layer these on top of lipsticks as I don't like very sheer lipglosses. For the price, you also get two different-colored glosses. I am not a fan of the packaging, though, but you might like it if you are into squeeze tubes. I prefer my lipglosses in doe-foot or brush applicators.

Straight From Paris: Lancôme's Declaring Indigo Fall Color Collection

Yesterday in Paris, the Lancôme makeup team unveiled their Fall 2009 color collection, Declaring Indigo. Created by Lancôme artistic director for makeup Aaron De Mey, this collection celebrates Paris in all its vibrancy. Aaron chose shades that represent the glamour, the energy and the passion of Paris — indigo blue, bright red and luxurious gold.

Lancôme debuted a few key shades during Fashion Week. At Chris Benz, all three Le Vernis nail colors were showcased: Golden Audacity, Indigo Paris and Rouge Liberty. Lancôme spokesmodel Daria Werbowy is the face of the collection. She was photographed by Mario Sorrenti for the ad. Below are some product shots and a behind-the-scenes photo of Daria.

We’ll be telling you more about these products in the weeks ahead. Declaring Indigo will be available for sale starting in August, but Nordstrom has a limited-edition Declaring Indigo brush-and-makeup bag set available for pre-order now.

That nail polish looks absolutely stunning! I can't wait to see the other items from this collection.

Fing'rs Bling! Nail & Body Jewels Review

I got a chance to try some innovative nail products courtesy of Fing'rs, and here is the first of a series of reviews on this brand. This product dropped on my lap at the most opportune time -just when I was getting interested in nail art. I really wouldn't touch nail and body jewels if I didn't even think of applying them. Now that I am dabbling in nail art, it's just fun to think of ways to incorporate nail jewels into my designs.

The Fing'rs Bling! Nail & Body Jewels set doesn't just come with the rhinestones, it also comes with all the necessary accessories to attach and set the jewel in place. It comes with over 160 gorgeous gems with amazing variety and intricate designs, 1 manicure stick, 1 ml. body glue and 5 ml. top coat. I like that this set is well thought-of and ready to use anytime, anywhere.

See how beautiful the jewels are? I love the variety, and the fact that there are actually some stones that are not that commonly found in other gem kits. I also like that the gems are small, because a little bigger would look too tacky. The fact that they are small doesn't scream too much attention.

Nail Jewel Application:
1. Wet the tip of the manicure stick and use it to pick up a jewel. Apply jewels to nail while polish or top coat is still tacky. Gently press with manicure stick.
2. Apply one or two coats of top coat to secure the jewels in place. Let dry completely.

Body Jewel Application:
1. Apply a drop of Fing'rs Body Glue where gems are to be placed. Apply while glue is still tacky. Press gently to secure. Allow to dry completely.

My Take: It was pretty easy to apply the gems, because I followed the instructions to the letter. I also used a top coat over the polish that is specifically for gems/rhinestones, so that the jewels would adhere to the nail better. The top coat was especially tacky, so it really glued the jewel in place. Adding the Fing'rs top coat on top really sealed the entire thing.

UPSIDE: I love the beautiful variety of jewels, the ease in application, the convenience of having the necessary tools to apply the jewels in the kit, the easy to follow instructions.

DOWNSIDE: I didn't like the jewel casing. The little clear box that held the jewels broke its hinges the very first time I handled it, so I couldn't close it, spilling the stones all over my table and carpet. Moreover, the little gems tend to stick to the lid of the box, so it was difficult to put the gems back in their proper receptacles.

All in all, this is a good product, because it is basically a complete kit for applying nail and body jewels. I liked everything except for the jewel case. If you are into nail art, this would be a good product to try, especially if you are scouting for a convenient kit that has everything you need for applying nail gems and rhinestones.

MAC Fresh Green Mix Look

Here's a look featuring my favorite green mineral eyeshadow from MAC, Fresh Green Mix from the Electroflash collection. I loved each and every look I come up with using this.

I also used Henna, Greensmoke, and Humid for this look.

I used DreamWorld Mineral foundation for this look. I love this brand of mineral makeup. As I stated in my Comprehensive Review of Mineral Foundations I've Tried, it gives a radiant complexion because it is not entirely matte, but not shimmery either. It de-flats one's skintone and makes it look bright, and DreamWorld has awesome finishing powders (creme toppings and whipped cocoons) that will suit every skin type. As you can see in my looks, I use DreamWorld's finishing powders quite often.

Here's a step-by-step. All products MAC unless otherwise provided.

Apply Bare Canvas paint all over lid, brows, and lower lashline. Smooth product on the lid with finger. Using a fluffy shader brush, apply Greenstroke paint pot on lid. Using Loew Cornell Maxine's Mop 3/8" or the 239 brush (stiff shader brush), apply solid side of Fresh Green Mix foiled (using Charged Water) on lid.

Using another stiff shader brush (I used Sonia Kashuk's small eyeshadow brush), apply the melange side of Fresh Green Mix on the crease, going down to the outer lid.

Using the 224 brush, apply Henna on the lid.

Using the Sonia Kashuk blender brush, apply Greensmoke on outer V and crease. Blend with the 224.

Using the Sonia Kashuk blender brush, apply Humid on the crease, then blend again using the 224.

Using the 227 brush, apply Vanilla pigment on the crease, and use Coastal Scents mini detail brush to apply Vanilla pigment on inner corners.

Using the Sonia Kashuk mini-detail brush, apply the solid side of Fresh Green Mix on inner to mid lower lashline, and Humid on outer lower lashline. Use Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero to tightline and on waterline. Apply Almay liquid liner in Black. Apply mascara.

Face:
Monistat gel as primer
DreamWorld mineral foundation in 50-50 mix of Theia and Amenti (Luna formula)
Urban Decay 24/7 pencil concealer
Dayna's Rested mineral undereye concealer
DreamWorld Creme Topping(finishing powder) in Peach Creme (clay and silica formula)
MAC duo blush in Tigerlily/Bloomsberry

Lips:
MAC lipliner in Whirl
MAC lipstick in Brave
MAC lipglass in Trifle
